A YEAR IN PRAYER    "Using God's Word to pray"

Could there have been previous generations with such a high percentage of backbiting scoffers as ours?

Are we among the sarcastic-back-stabbing-with-the-tongue-self-righteous mockers?

Is our tongue without control, spewing filth, calumny, and slander on others?

DAY # 30

TODAY’S REQUEST:

LORD, KEEP US FROM BACKBITING WITH THE TONGUE

Deuteronomy 5:20 ‘You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
Proverbs 3:29 Do not devise evil against your neighbor, For he dwells by you for safety’s sake.
Proverbs 24:28 Do not be a witness against your neighbor without cause, For would you deceive with your lips?
Zechariah 8:17 Let none of you think evil in your heart against your neighbor; And do not love a false oath. For all these are things that I hate,’ Says the LORD."
1 Peter 4:4 In regard to these, they think it strange that you do not run with them in the same flood of dissipation, speaking evil of you.
2 Peter 2:10 and especially those who walk according to the flesh in the lust of uncleanness and despise authority. They are presumptuous, self-willed. They are not afraid to speak evil of dignitaries,
Jude 1:10 But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.
Psalms 39:1 I said, "I will guard my ways, Lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, While the wicked are before me."

HOW DO THE SCRIPTURES TELL US TO EXPRESS THIS REQUEST?

GUARDING OUR WAYS, AND RESTRAINING OUR MOUTH

Psalms 15:1 LORD, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? 2 He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; 3 He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;
Titus 3:2 to speak evil of no one, to be peaceable, gentle, showing all humility to all men.
James 3:5-10 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind. 8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. 10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.
James 4:11 Do not speak evil of one another, brethren. He who speaks evil of a brother and judges his brother, speaks evil of the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge.
Psalms 35:28 And my tongue shall speak of Your righteousness And of Your praise all the day long.
