A YEAR IN PRAYER    "Using God's Word to pray"

Does godly sorrow overtake your soul when you take a good look at your sins, your transgressions and your iniquity?

Do you look for excuses and scapegoats in order to avoid dealing with your sinful nature?

Whom do you see standing in front of your mirror: a not too bad person deserving pardon or a hopelessly depraved sinner in need of a Savior?

DAY # 243

TODAY’S REQUEST:

BROKEN OVER OUR SINFULNESS,

GRATEFUL TO CHRIST OUR SAVIOR

Matthew 3:8 "Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9 "and do not think to say to yourselves, ‘We have Abraham as our father.’ For I say to you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
Romans 2:4 -11 Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance, and longsuffering, not knowing that the goodness of God leads you to repentance? 5 But in accordance with your hardness and your impenitent heart you are treasuring up for yourself wrath in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God, 6 who "will render to each one according to his deeds": 7 eternal life to those who by patient continuance in doing good seek for glory, honor, and immortality; 8 but to those who are self–seeking and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness––indignation and wrath, 9 tribulation and anguish, on every soul of man who does evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek; 10 but glory, honor, and peace to everyone who works what is good, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 11 For there is no partiality with God.

HOW DO THE SCRIPTURES TELL US TO EXPRESS THIS REQUEST?

WITH GODLY SORROW, COMING TO REPENTANCE

Psalms 51:1-10 Have mercy upon me, O God, According to Your lovingkindness; According to the multitude of Your tender mercies, Blot out my transgressions. 2 Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, And cleanse me from my sin. 3 For I acknowledge my transgressions, And my sin is always before me. 4 Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight––That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge. 5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, And in sin my mother conceived me. 6 Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts, And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom. 7 Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice. 9 Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities. 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Psalms 51:17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart – These, O God, You will not despise.
2 Corinthians 7:10 For godly sorrow produces repentance leading to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death.
2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.
